Chick Tsikouras
Guitar / Jazz Guitar

img

Chick was born in Manchester, New Hampshire.  "My musical roots stem from 70’s rock bands including Queen, Led Zepplin and the Rolling Stones but I have a great appreciation of Jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Louie Armstrong and Charlie Christian." “I began playing guitar in high school and realized that music was the path I wanted to follow.  I received a musical scholarship from the Daytona Beach Community College where I played in the college jazz band.  From here my practice schedule went from 3 hours a day to 8 hours a day.  I then went on to the University of North Florida (UNF) and studied under Jack Petersen who is an accomplished guitarist in his own right. He not only played with the Dallas Symphony and was an accomplished studio musician but he started the guitar program at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. I went on to receive a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Jazz performance.  While I was attending UNF I performed with Pat Metheny, Count Basie Band, Cassandra Wilson and Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Clark Terry and many others.  After graduation, I went on the road with a rock band and toured the southeast with such acts as Mommas & the Poppas, KC & the Sunshine Band, Limp Bizkit, Widespread Panic, Tonic, Cake, Sister Hazel, and Hootie & the Blowfish.  After this, I moved to Charlotte, NC where I joined a local band and continued to perform live and in session work.  I am currently teaching at Music 49.” For musical instruction from beginners to advance players (on acoustic or electric guitar) chick teaches theory, ear training, arranging, chord solos, sight-reading and reading rhythms. For even the most novice players, chick hopes that a student would be able to play along with some of your favorite bands heard on the radio.  The books chick teaches from are written by Barry Gailbrath, William Levitt, and other studies covered during his collegiate experience. With 22 years experience in performing, touring, studio work, musical arrangement and composition and musical instruction, you will definitely reach a level of playing where you will feel comfortable playing in any musical situation.
